STRAREGIC LOCATION  
 
Chiang Rai, the northernmost province in Thailand, is located 785 kilometers north of Bangkok, Thailand's capital city. Chiang Rai is home to majestic mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, hot springs, caves, and much more. There are a number of picturesque attractions such as the White Temple, museums, and the Doi Tung Development Project. 
 
In addition to physical beauty, Chiang Rai holds a wealth of cultural beauty. Known as the heart of Lanna culture, Chiang Rai is home to many ethnic groups, including Karen, Akha, Lisu, Meo and Muser. Chiang Rai also gives a glimpse into the history of Thailand, with a number of Buddhist shrines and ruins of ancient settlements.
 
Situated on the Kok River Basin, Chiang Rai located within the renowned Golden Triangle area where the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Lao PDR, and Thailand converge. This area is also accessible to the Yunnan province of China. Given Chiang Rai's access to all these countries, it has been designated as the center of the Greater Mekong sub-region. The GMS is comprised of 6 countries: Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and southern China. 
 
Mae Fah Luang University acts a centrally located education hub for all 6 countries. MFU works to use education as a tool for peace and friendship among these countries. MFU students may enroll in courses to study the economies, cultures and environments of the GMS countries. Students also have the opportunity to learn about the common culture and traditions that all 6 countries share.
